USING CONCRETE GRINDING FOR SIDEWALK TRIP HAZARD REPAIR

Concrete grinding is an ideal solution for the on-going maintenance and repair of sidewalk trip hazards. Not only is it much less expensive than traditional replacement, it is permanent (see why) and if done correctly, looks pleasing (see picture on right).

In most cases, sidewalks misaligned up to 2 inches can be ground back down eliminating the dangerous trip hazard. Grinding any more than that weakens sidewalk slabs.

Concrete grinding can look terrible if performed by an unexperienced equipment operator (see photo). Every grind should be uniform in appearance with a straight backline and few, if any, scars on the adjacent slab. To ensure quality work, download technical specifications for concrete grinding and insist that your contractor perform work to these industry accepted specifications. Or click here to view the specification drawings . Or, click here to download the Sidewalk Grinding Specifications in PDF format.

In almost all cases, concrete grinding for sidewalk trip hazards is priced by the "location". A "location" is typically defined as any raised sidewalk, up to 5 feet wide and up to 2 inches high. This includes most sidewalk dimensions so getting prices for jobs is as simple as requesting the companies "per location price".

Prices vary by region, but expect to pay between $35 to $48 per sidewalk "location" if performed by a professional contractor. Many times, discounts are given for projects with a large number of locations. Make sure you ask your contractor.
