WHAT IS CONCRETE RAISING?

Concrete Raising is a generic term that describes a variety of methods to raise sunken concrete back to it's original level. SABER's concrete raising services quick, permanent, and cost effective. Concrete Raising has been a common repair method for many decades,Our concrete raising services are preformed by our highly experienced staff primarily in the mid-west region of the U.S. However, concrete raising is often a perfect solution in all areas of the country.

The concept is very simple, but should only be attempted by seasoned professionals as it requires very subtle nuances to get it to work just right. A grout-type or material (often top soil, sand/clay or grout) is pumped under the slab through small holes. The material fills any void and then lifts the slab back into position. The holes are patched with cement and the surface is ready to use.

Projects are priced either by square foot, or priced by how much material is going to be used. Prices vary by geography and usually range from about $2.50 to $6.50 per square foot. The type of material used to lift the surface will vary from project to project. The most common is simple grout which is stronger than polyurethane. RAISING WITH GROUT

Grout is very simply a term to describe various mixtures of sand with a little (and sometimes zero) cement. Grouts can vary widely from various applications and can contain a wide variety of admixtures for each individual purpose. So by just saying "grout" many different types of materials could be referenced with this one word. For Concrete Raising purposes, the grout used can be customized for each project and is often specified by the owner of the project. Raising with grout is extremely versatile. It can be used in many applications such as: pool decks, sidewalks, patios, garage floors, slab foundations, warehouse floors, parking lots, roads & streets and more!

Typically, the purpose of the Concrete Raising is only to replace the sub-base under the concrete that has eroded. The grout used to replace this can be a simple mixture of sand, a little cement, and an admixture of clay, fly-ash or bentonite to make the material pump easily. This mixture is inexpensive and does more than an adequate job replacing the missing sub-base soil with a sturdy material that is not prone to erode or shirk. LIFTING CONCRETE SLABS

The most practical and common application for concrete raising is simply raising sunken slabs back up to their original level. Slabs sink for a variety of reasons: soil erosion, poor soil preparation, soil movement. The slab sinks because there is simply less soil under it to support it.

Concrete raising simply replaces the missing soil with a sturdy material that is not prone to erode or shrink. The best material is a fine aggregate like sand mixed with clay. The only evidence of the process are the small (1-5/8 inch) holes drilled though the concrete. These are patch with cement and often match well with the existing concrete surface. In fact, most times, concrete raising looks even better than removal and replacement because the original slab matches surrounding slabs.

Raising slabs is not an easy process that should be attempted by anyone but an experienced concrete raising professional. To receive more information about our concrete raising services and get a quote, click here to contact us.

VOID FILLING

Void filling is the processes of displacing empty spaces under concrete surfaces with a material that is more durable than the previous material. There are many different types of material that can be used depending on the requirements of the application.

Void filling contractors will typically price a job based on the estimated amount of material needed to fill the void. To obtain an accurate quote, the contractor will need to know the approximate depth of the void to calculate the amount of material required. ROADS AND STREETS

Concrete Raising (mud jacking, slab jacking, pressure grouting, et al...) is the preferred and ideal solution in dealing with sunken concrete roads and streets. The primary advantage is the cost and the permanent nature of the repair. Additionally, as opposed to replacement repairs, concrete raising allows complete access to the roads immediately after the repairs.

Slab jacking is used across the country by municipalities ranging from the local level to the state transportation agencies. The most common material is simply grout. Contractors that do road work must have high volume mixing and pumping equipment as well as the experience to deal with the added complexities of raising heavy roads. WAREHOUSE AND INDUSTRIAL FLOORS

Concrete raising is perhaps the most practical solution for the busy warehouse or industrial floor. Removal and replacement are simply not options sometimes where downtime costs quickly add up to giant losses. Concrete raising (and often concrete grinding) allows quick repairs to uneven floors with very minimal downtime and typically costs less than replacement.

Typical applications include: slab stabilization, void fill, slab curl, slab leveling, joint alignment, equipment support and there are materials that are suited for each application (click here for some material comparisons).
